Conroe Courier/ June 2, 2021/ Fishing Reports, News

Fishing on Lake Conroe is good. The water temperature at the dam early in the morning has been running 72.6 degrees. As the day wears on and the sun comes up it has been warming up, especially in the shallows and back waters of the creeks.

The water at this time is clear in the main lake and a little cloudy in the run off areas. The level is 201.19 feet. The City of Houston Diversion (COH) is 0 CFS, the Ground Reduction Plan (GRP) is 16.31 CFS and the lake release is 350 CFS according to the San Jacinto River Authority.

Black bass fishing is good. They can be found around the rocks early and late in the day and can be found around brush from 8-to-16 feet deep using a variety of baits. Good baits are Texas rigged worms, shaky heads, crankbaits and spinnerbaits along with the occasional top water lures.

Crappie are doing well on minnows and jigs around brush from 8-to-25 feet of water. Some good size crappie are being caught.

Catfish are doing great right now around channel edges from 12-to-20 feet of water around baited areas. Chicken liver as well as stink baits are producing good catches. Tatsch uses a number 8 treble hook and a 1/8-to-1/4 ounce egg sinker in the deeper water.

Hybrids are chasing schools of shad around main lake points in from 10-to-30 feet of water. When you find the shad grouped up the fish will be close.

Bream are moving up on beds and you can catch a lot of them around the beds or on the brush piles from 8-to-16 feet deep. The best bait is night crawlers of meal worms.

Richard Tatsch owns the FishDude's Guide Service and has been a licensed professional fishing guide since 1996. His boat is a 24-foot Pathfinder bay boat, which is very spacious and safe enough for the roughest conditions on Lake Conroe.
