Conroe Courier/ November 4, 2020/ Fishing Reports, News

Fishing on Lake Conroe is slow to good depending on what you are after. The water temperature in the main lake is running 62.85 degrees around daylight at the dam and the water level is 199.12 feet. Pool is 201 feet above mean sea level and no water is being released at this time according to the San Jacinto River Authority.

Black bass are still slow at this time but a few more cold fronts and they should be picking up nicely. James Tucker said some anglers are catching a few around the riprap and the bridges and top water baits, spinnerbaits and square bill crankbaits are working best.

Crappie are still slow. Tucker said he was out recently and caught 14 but it was hard work. Some people are catching a few around the bridge pilings on minnows and jigs. Some are being caught around deeper brush from 18 to 25 feet and around the FM1097 bridge pylons. The crappie fishing should continue to pick up again as the weather and water cools down. Stow-A Way Marina is getting ready to stock some more crappie in our lake so if you wish to donate to the cause the last date is November 15.

Catfish are doing great. Tucker reported that they are doing fantastic from 12 to 20 feet deep on baited holes. He said they seemed to come in waves as they would catch one right after another then it would all stop for a while and then they would start again. He said they caught about ten blue catfish in the five to fifteen pound range. Stink bait and chicken liver are producing good catches. Tucker uses a No. 8 treble hook and a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce egg sinker.

Hybrid striped bass are starting to pick up according to some anglers but not too much. They are eating schools of shad in open water right now around 30 foot ledges. The bait is around 20 feet deep so that’s where you will have your best chances.

The information was provided in part by James Tucker who works at Stow-A-Way Marina. Stow-A-Way Marina and RV Park can be reached at (936) 856-4531.
